VHS Capture Hardware & Software: To capture the video from VHS you need to use either a Video capture card or an easier to use USB video capture device. Both VHS2DVD Wizard and Roxio Easy VHS to DVD bundle includes the VHS capture USB device + the easy to use software from which you can capture, edit, and burn your VHS video to a DVD disc. Having both tools will allow anyone to easily transfer any VHS tape to digital format preserved on DVD discs.

VHS2DVD Wizard is a all in one solution for anyone to transfer VHS tapes to DVD media. Including both the VHS 2 DVD software and a connector cable for your VCR to PC, you can get started right away with a few simple setup steps. The software is very user friendly offering a Wizard type interface giving you step by step instructions on what to do next. This was great the first time I used it as I didn't need to think what to do next. Now after a few successful backups the software is a no brainer. |

Reasons to Convert VHS to DVD
The main reason you would want to transfer your VHS content to DVD discs is obvious for most and probably the reason you are on this page. That is to preserve that analog video footage into a more reliable format like digital. Once the video is digital you have many more options available to you such as:
- Transfer to a blank DVD or Blu Ray disc for viewing on regular DVD players
- Make a digital copy and store on your hard drive for archive purposes
- Transfer to your iPod, iPad, or other portable video devices
- Store on SD cards or portable USB drives for access later
Transferring the contents of a VHS tape to DVD for the most part is an easy step using the right software (Hint: the software above will do the trick). The analog movie is first transferred to your PC. Then the software will allow you to edit it by cutting parts out, adding chapter points, adding background music, and adding menus. Once that part is complete you can output to DVD or store as a large digital file.
Most software will include an Analog to Digital converter cable, like the ones we recommend. This process is necessary since you are converting from one format to another. As you guessed this process must be completed in real time, so as you play the VCR tape the software will capture and store the contents on the hard drive.
